Objective
Using an existing bag as a guide create a dieline and a 3/0 design for a bag of bulbs for a company.
Breakup Bulbs is a unique product designed to help individuals cope with the emotional aftermath of a breakup. The package includes 25 assorted bulbs, biodegradable paper, and a pencil. Users are encouraged to write their feelings about the breakup on the paper, and then shred it as a cleansing ritual. In the fall, they bury the shredded paper along with the bulbs. Come springtime, the buried bulbs bloom into beautiful flowers, symbolizing renewal and growth after letting go of past pain.
This process offers a cathartic way for individuals to express and release their emotions while embracing the promise of new beginnings.
Research
I started by researching package design and patterns on Pinterest. However, I realized I needed to learn more about bulbs and how they are planted and grown. For one of my designs, I wanted to do a line of bee-friendly bulbs so I had to research what kinds of flowers bees liked and when they bloomed.

Thumbnails
I created three different designs, one was a package of bulbs that featured flowers that bees liked, and the purpose of the flowers was to help pollinators. The second was the package of bowls to celebrate Persian new year. And the third was a very simple clean bag with a type heavy look.
Thumbnail Dummies
Making the bags were helpful because I could see how they would look once assembled.
Intermediate Thumbnails
During my husband's nine-hour stint in the ER for a kidney stone, I kept myself busy and created a new design, drawing inspiration from dark moody florals and Ted Baker's aesthetic.
Intermediate Dummies
The design has flowers on the side panels and I want them creeping into the front and back of the bag. Assembling a dummy helped me to figure out how that would look.

Color Studies:
These are my color studies. I had to ensure the text was readable and contrasted enough with the colors.
Final Clean Design:
I decided on three spot colors, Plum (#38042e), Purple(#343368), and Navy (#000b2e).
